Description The Veterans Medical Research Foundation (VMRF) is a private not-for-profit medical research corporation, providing support for biomedical and health services research.

Qualifications Summary:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; and two to four years related experience and/or training, or two to four years experience in Accounting and/or Finance; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to do the following: read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents; respond to common inquiries made by staff, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community; effectively present information to a varied audience; must be able to apply concepts of basic algebra; apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Accounting experience is a plus. Prior contracts and grants administration experience preferred. The amount of experience will determine the level (I or II) employed at.

Job Description Summary:
Under direct or minimal supervision and guidance, will carry out professional development responsibilities relating to all phases of contracts and grants administration in a medical research setting. Will focus on pre and post award grants administration in accordance with OMB Circulars A-122 and A-110 guidelines. Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: timely completion and submission of grant applications; review grant applications for budgetary appropriateness, completeness and conformity with VMRF and agency policies; resolve any discrepancies to ensure that VMRF internal compliance approvals are met before proposal submission; notify Principal Investigators (PIs) of grant applications and progress report submission deadlines; read and interpret accounting records to advise PIs on the overall status of all funding sources including grants, industry sponsored agreements, and other administrative accounts; analyze trends in expenditures and recommend and implement a course of action. Reconcile and monitor funds on a monthly basis; analyze awarded research monies and prepare fiscal projections and reports to ensure proper expenditures of grant and contract funds as required by funding agencies. Research and recommend solutions to problems related to allocation, expenditures and termination of funds. Coordinate final fiscal, progress and invention reports to external agencies for grant closeout. May provide training to scientific support staff in the preparation of grant applications and assist PIs in complying with all administrative responsibilities. May perform additional duties as required.

Title Controller
Description We are searching for a hands-on, detail-oriented finance professional to serve as Controller for an established San Diego manufacturer. The Controller is responsible for overseeing the overall accounting operations and plays a key role in the financial reporting process of the company.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of all financial statements and accounting reports, including interim and final Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow and Inventory Valuation.
  • Manage the daily operations of the accounting department; accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, inventory, general ledger and internal audit.
  • Assist with various Cost Accounting functions
  • Aid in preparation of Annual Plant Budget
  • Responsible for compliance with company policy, local, state and federal tax requirements and GAAP.
  • Serve as primary company contact to external providers of audit, banking and consulting services; also tax, regulatory and other governmental agencies.

Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, 5 or more years experience in a Plant Controller, Accounting Manager or public accounting position. CPA a plus.
  • Strong accounting software and Excel experience and skills.
  • Well organized, self motivated and must be able to prioritize
  • Strong understanding of all aspect of general ledger accounting (from transaction to close) along with the management and supervision skills to train, motivate and work directly with the staff.

Title Cost Accountant
Description BREG, Inc., an Orthofix Company, is one of the fastest growing health care / sports medicine manufacturers, whose cold therapy and orthopedic products are preferred by leading surgeons and proudly worn by athletes around the world.

We are currently seeking a full time COST ACCOUNTANT to join our team to safeguard the integrity of the inventory and financial statements through robust, continuously improving processes. This position will provide managerial accounting services to manufacturing operations management through frequent analysis of data, interpretation of results and recommendations for improvement.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•Ensure the accuracy of inventory and cost of goods sold.
•Supervise and/or perform cost accounting month end including journal entries, inventory and roll forward schedules and general ledger reconciliations.
•Analyze cost and financial data to assist top management in strategic decision making.
•Work closely with manufacturing operations management to communicate any trends or anomalies, and make recommendations to improve results.
•Prepare annual cost of sales budget and related schedules. Work closely with Mexicali cost accounting in preparation of their overhead budget and management schedules. Provide periodic forecasting.
•Keep SOX and desktop procedures written and current and assure that cost accounting and reporting is in compliance with Sox guidelines and GAAP.
•Prepare inventory schedules, comparative analysis for quarterly and annual audits. Coordinate with auditors on inventory and cost issues.
•Analyze cost and financial data to expose any information useful in improving operating efficiencies, manufacturing processes, raw material, or product design. Keep management apprised of any trends in product line costs, inventory levels, material costs, or other developments that need to be addressed by management.
•Make recommendations for procedural and strategic improvement. Assess and continuously improve cost accounting, reporting, and other related procedures.

Requirements
•At least 3 years of Cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment is required. Progressive experience in a general accounting environment is preferred in addition to 3 years of Cost Accounting Experience.
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field is required. Possession of a CMA, CPA or MBA is preferred.
•At least 2 years of supervisory experience is required.
•The ability to travel to the BREG Mexico facility is required.
•Must have advanced level Excel skills.
•Experience with ORACLE is preferred but not required.
•Familiarity and experience with SOX is preferred but not required.

Title Accounting Specialist
Description Limited duration position through 06/30/2011.

Incumbent will be responsible for reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, preparation of financial statements, year-end activities and audit related activities. Review contract budget and monthly contract invoices for accuracy and budgetary compliance. Prepare quality control reports with respect to weekly disbursements and sampling of transactions. Provide support to accounts receivable, accounts payable and contracts payable functions. Assist with preparation of board meetings, preparation of technical assistance materials, and preparation of power point presentation. Provide administrative support to Finance Director and Controller.

Skills Required: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and some cost accounting; performance gap analysis and financial related models using advanced excel skills; knowledge of accounting software; excellent analytical and organizational skills; ability to build and maintain internal relationships based on professionalism and solid customer service practices. Salary range $34-38K.

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with Accounting or Finance emphasis is required for this position.

Minimum one year of experience in Accounting or Finance within a corporate environment or government agency.

Direct report to the Controller, this position is responsible for reviewing, preparing and posting journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, month, quarter, year end close, including preparation of consolidated financial statements, as well as assistance with other projects.

Experience with a high-tech manufacturing or a bio-tech industries with 5+ years in a corporate senior accounting role is required. BA or BS degree in accounting or related is preferred. Must have revenue recognition and sales tax experience for various states.
