  President's Message

Welcome to the San Diego Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). The IMA is a professional association dedicated to enhancing the careers of management accountants at all levels of the profession and across all industries. In addition, the IMA strives to provide accounting education, CMA certification and networking opportunities to help its members stay current on issues facing the profession.

The IMA is one of the few Accounting-focused associations that also embraces the participation of students. Students from USD, SDSU, UCSD, local junior colleges, and the various institutions geared toward the working adult participate in our events and network with our members on a monthly basis.

The San Diego IMA chapter hosts monthly chapter meetings in addition to our more intimate Controller's Council gatherings. Topics have ranged from "Women in Financial Leadership" to "Positioning Yourself for a Promotion" and from "San Diego's Real Estate Market" to technical subjects like "IFRS". Each presenter is a subject matter expert and is a well-known professional from the local community.

If you have not already considered becoming a member, we encourage you to do so. You will be joining the organization that supports, educates, connects and develops San Diego's accountants in industry. IMA sponsors the designation of the Certified Management Accountant (CMA). For more details on the certification process, visit the website at www.IMAnet.org, or contact us.

We are always interested in what our members would like to hear about, and welcome anyone to consider joining the board and assist in leading the Chapter. Please feel free to contact any of our Board members for more information. I hope to see you at an upcoming meeting.

Jim Lebs, CMA Chapter President

IMA CEO Visits San Diego
The CEO of the IMA, Mr. Jeff Thomson visited San Diego January 21-23, 2010. Jeff was in town to promote the value of IMA membership and to that end participated in events with both the San Diego and San Diego North County IMA Chapters, as well as with the Wild West Council. The events were held in Del Mar and included a joint San Diego/San Diego North County Chapters dinner meeting on Thursday night, a meeting of the Controller's Council discussing the subject of IFRS on Friday and an informational session on Saturday to discuss the benefits of the CMA credential.

Overall Jeff's visit was a success, leaving members of both chapters excited and energized about the future direction of the organization.
